Camelot Nation and Krewe of King Arthur Announce 2025 Arts Scholarship Recipients

New Orleans, LA – Camelot Nation: The Krewe of King Arthur Foundation, is proud to announce the recipients of its 2025 Arts Scholarship—an initiative designed to support local school band programs by funding the purchase of new musical instruments. Thanks to the incredible generosity of our donors and the enthusiastic support of the Krewe of King Arthur, we are thrilled to award over $13,000 in scholarships to four deserving school marching bands that help bring Mardi Gras to life.

The 2025 Camelot Nation Arts Scholarship recipients are:

  • Homer Plessy Treme Marching Unit – $3,711

  • Mildred Osborne Charter School Band – $2,484

  • West Jefferson High School Marching Buccaneers – $5,000

  • Dorothy Height Charter School Band – $2,268

These awards will fund the purchase of essential musical instruments for each school, strengthening their music programs and supporting the next generation of performers. Scholarship funds will be paid directly to vendors on behalf of each school to ensure a smooth and efficient purchasing process.

Camelot Nation’s mission is to "Parade with a Purpose"—supporting causes that promote diversity, inclusivity, and creative expression across our community. In partnership with the Krewe of King Arthur, Camelot Nation’s fundraising efforts focus on uplifting local organizations and initiatives, including arts education for youth.

“This scholarship honors the commitment these schools have made to nurturing creativity and access to music education,” said Jody Portnoff Braunig, President of Camelot Nation. “True to Camelot’s legendary spirit, we believe every student deserves the tools to explore their artistic potential and shape a harmonious future.”

The scholarship recipients were selected from local marching bands that participate in the Krewe of King Arthur’s parade, one of the largest and most inclusive parades during the Mardi Gras season. Each band plays an integral role in bringing the magic of Carnival to life.

Camelot Nation is honored to help these students find their voice and amplify the joy of music throughout our city.
